Dear Parents,
Welcome to KINDERGARTEN and the SUPERHERO TRAINING CENTER at Washington Elementary! What happens in this classroom will affect your child’s future! Your superhero’s time here will be well spent. He/she may even come home exhausted from all the time spent growing our brains, but I will do my best to make every minute count. One of the things that I stress to my students is that our brain grows when we do hard things along with the power of the word, YET! With your help, we can make this an amazing experience. My aim is for the students to have fun, learn to love learning and to be ready for 1st grade at the end of the year! I can’t wait to get to know your superhero and learn all about his/her superpowers!
ABOUT THE TEACHER:
This is the beginning of my 28th year of teaching! I have had a wide variety of experiences including pre-school- 4thgrades and students with severe intellectual disabilities. I even had 1 year of homeschooling with my own children (1 year was more than enough!)!
I have 3 children, a daughter in love, and 2 grandsons! I have a passion for crafting and the ocean. I’m a North Carolina girl, born and bred, so if your child comes home speaking “southern” you’ll know why!
STAY TUNED
Watch for messages on our new Parent Square App and in the daily HERO folder. Note that I don’t usually have time to check the portal or my email during the day, so if you have time sensitive messages, those should be called into the office.
TRANSPORTATION:
I highly recommend having a consistent plan for transportation for your child when possible. Bus riders will have a zip tie that will be attached to the backpack to properly match the student with the correct bus. Please make sure that your child does not remove the zip tie. K students who are picked up for car/walking will come out of the south facing end of the building. Please make sure that the person picking up your child has documented permission in the office. I will escort students out of the building. No students will be allowed to leave until all of our car riders/walkers are outside. The students will be asked to high-five me when they see their person and I will release them after I see the person who is picking them up. Please bear with me in the beginning as there are lots of new faces and names to remember! Also, if you are picking up your child early please make sure you do so before 3:20. The end of the day is very busy in the classroom and that break in the routine makes it difficult for all students.
DO NOT MESSAGE TRANSPORTATION CHANGES TO ME I AM TEACHING UNTIL SCHOOL IS OUT. STUDENTS WHO DO NOT HAVE CHANGES CALLED INTO THE OFFICE WILL BE SENT HOME BY THEIR USUAL FORM OF TRANSPORTATION unless there has been written notification.
SNACK:
Your child may bring two healthy snacks each day, one for the morning and one for the afternoon.
